The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted education on every level for families, from the typical school day we take for granted to state and standardized testing to the culmination of students' high school studies: the college admissions process. A road map doesn’t exist to traverse this new academic landscape, and schools, teachers and families have had to pull together virtual learning plans in zero time on a massive scale. The transition has been pretty impressive, but challenges still persist in making sure students receive a quality education, equal opportunity and readiness to move on to the next step in their lives (academically, socially and emotionally).
This panel will be an in-depth discussion on the following topics:
1. The Virtual Learning Experience: how to maximize learning in the home environ, time management, structure, school communications and resources
2. Tutoring: know when/how to reach out to outside resources for tutoring/instructional support
3. Testing: what is happening across state testing, SAT/ACT/AP/IB and entrance exams and what to do about it for your child
4. Learning Disabilities Advocacy: what to know about your child’s rights during remote learning, what is allowed within the teletherapy framework, and what is happening with IEP annuals and re-evaluations
5. College Admissions: what is happening for current seniors as well as rising juniors and key details on the sweeping admissions changes being offered to 2021 applicants.
6. How performing arts programs can work effectively online.
7. Summer! What can be done to salvage the summer for upper-level students typically set on summer college programs, internships, training and/or auditions
